Coheed and Cambria has confirmed April 13 as the release date of Year of the Black Rainbow, its heavily anticipated fifth studio album. The eagerly awaited prequel to “The Amory Wars” tetralogy, Year of the Black Rainbow will be released by Columbia in both a standard format and a deluxe edition including a 352-page Year of the Black Rainbow novel, penned by the band’s Claudio Sanchez and New York Times Bestselling author Peter David.
Presale orders for the deluxe edition of Year of the Black Rainbow can be placed beginning this week at http://www.coheedandcambria.com. In addition to the CD and novel, the deluxe edition will include a “Making of” DVD featuring studio and interview footage as well as a Coheed and Cambria “Black Card,” which will allow fans early entrance to shows, discounts on band merchandise and exclusive downloads and offers. Sneak peeks at the new album’s artwork and other exclusive visuals can be seen at http://www.coheedandcambria.com.
Year of the Black Rainbow provides the long awaited prequel to the band’s four previous inter-related concept albums — The Second Stage Turbine Blade (2002); In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 (2003); Good Apollo, I’m Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness (2005) and Good Apollo, I’m Burning Star IV, Volume Two: No World for Tomorrow (2007) - which comprise “The Amory Wars,” the conceptual narrative driving the band’s lyrics, penned by Coheed and Cambria frontman Claudio Sanchez. Year Of The Black Rainbow is also likely to be the final installment of the narrative of “The Amory Wars.”
Year of the Black Rainbow is produced by Atticus Ross (Nine Inch Nails, Jane’s Addiction) and Joe Baressi (Queens of the Stone Age, Tool). According to the Sanchez, “They have helped us evolve our sound to be more powerful and dynamic than ever and we think it’s definitely our best work to date.” The new record also features the studio debut of Coheed and Cambria drummer Chris Pennie, who has been playing alongside Sanchez, guitarist Travis Stever and bassist Michael Robert Todd since 2007 and was featured on Neverender: Children of the Fence Edition, the CD/DVD box set documentation of the fall/winter 2008 four-night stands during which the band played its catalogue in its entirety, one album per night, in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and London.
Year Of The Black Rainbow’s release will be preceded by a series of eight intimate club gigs on the northeastern U.S., four of which are already sold out. Earl Greyhound supports on the dates, which are as follows.

THIS IS NOT THEIR LAST ALBUM. Claudio said "In terms of the concept, this is the last album" We all know Coheed wouldn't just go away like that. Its just the last album as far as the concept.

oh thats cool. just change the f***ing age range for your Scranton show. if anyone actually reads these comments i'd like to know why they changed the age. i bought 3 tickets for my friends and i, all 17 years old and now you say you're not letting us in? f*** that. i don't know who's responsible for the change but i'm pissed.

If you somehow manage to actually receive and read this, my name is Mark Limburg. This may seem like a sob story, but it is an honest plea for help. I purchased tickets to your March 30th show in Scranton as soon as the clock turned 10; I even stayed home from school to do so. See, March 30th is my girlfriend’s birthday and we both absolutely love the band. This was my special birthday present to her and I wanted to make her 18th as special as possible. She almost cried when I told her I got tickets, and she is super excited to go. We were hotel reservations and planning our entire trip already when I got an email from Ticketmaster that the Hardware Bar show would now be 18+. I have no idea how to still see the show with my girlfriend, as I’ll be 28 days shy of my 18th birthday. We are both super pumped for Year of the Black Rainbow and it would crush her if we can’t make it. So I humbly send my futile attempt to ask if you can somehow swing us to still see your show. This is my last chance to actually do something fun with her, she is going away to college next year and I have to stay here and work. I love her and your band so much, this just needs to happen. The video at the beginning of the page that Claudio narrated actually gave me chills...ive been looking forward to this for quite sometime. It touches me and my husband on such a personal level.Coheed has a lot to do with why we are together. Thank you for pushing forward and completing this incredible story...

Since hearing that Co&Ca were back in the studio recording tracks for YotBR it has been nonstop anticipation for me. I can't wait for the new album. The 13th cannot come soon enough. Can't wait for the rain that preceeds the black rainbow. Is it here yet...is it here yet...IS IT HERE YET!?!>8)

You guys have to come down south for the YOTBR tour. I was gonna drive to Pennsylvania for your show in March but it sold out in like 15 minutes. Not suprised. I'm totally ordering the Deluxe edition.
